Screen recorder with webcam: your screen and your face, together
A face in the corner makes a lesson or a walkthrough feel like you're in the room. TapeBooth records your screen with your webcam in a small bubble and your voice over it, free and with no watermark. Here's how to set it up, and how the bubble behaves in each mode.
Record your screen and webcam in five steps
- Add TapeBooth to Chrome. On the welcome page, choose Allow camera & microphone, then Allow on every visit in Chrome's prompt. A camera preview and a mic meter confirm both work.
- Click the TapeBooth button and choose what to record: This tab or Window or screen.
- Turn on Camera and Microphone. If you have more than one, pick which to use.
- Press Start recording and choose what to share in Chrome's dialog. After the countdown, you're recording.
- Press Stop. The editor opens, where you can trim, cut and export an MP4.
Where your camera bubble goes
This tab
The bubble is added to a corner of the recording. Choose the corner, shape and size in Settings; hide or show it from the controls while you record. You can also draw on the page in this mode.
Window or screen
The bubble opens as a small floating window on top of everything, with the recording controls under it. Drag it wherever it covers nothing important. It's recorded when you share your entire screen; if you share a single window, it isn't, and TapeBooth tells you so before you start.
Camera only
No screen at all: the camera is the whole picture, with a large preview in TapeBooth's recorder tab. Good for an introduction or a quick message.
Make the bubble yours
Open TapeBooth's Settings, under Camera & microphone:
- Shape: circle, rounded or square.
- Size: small, medium or large.
- Mirror the camera: on by default, so left and right feel natural while you record.
- Starting corner: any of the four, or automatic (bottom left, or bottom right in right-to-left languages).
- Preview camera to check the result. The camera stays off until you press it.
Sound
Your microphone is recorded with echo cancellation and noise suppression. Add the tab's sound in This tab mode, or the computer's sound when you share your entire screen on Windows, a Chromebook, or a Mac with macOS 14.2 or later and Chrome 141 or later. With two sources, TapeBooth mixes them into one track. If the mic reads silent for the first few seconds, the controls say so.
If something goes wrong mid-recording
- The camera or mic is unplugged: the recording continues, TapeBooth shows “Camera disconnected” or “Microphone disconnected”, and picks the device up again when it's back. In Camera only mode, the camera is the recording, so it stops and saves.
- A page blocks TapeBooth's controls: some pages, like Chrome's own settings pages, don't allow extension content. The recording continues, and you stop it from the TapeBooth menu.
Your camera stays with you
TapeBooth uses the camera only while you record or preview, and the video is saved on your computer. Nothing is uploaded. See the privacy policy.
