A free Loom alternative with no account

Loom is built around sharing: you record, get a link, and viewers comment on it. Its free Starter plan caps how many videos you can make and how long each one runs. If you mostly record on your own computer and send the file yourself, TapeBooth does that for free, with no account. Here is an honest comparison, including what TapeBooth doesn't do.

Facts about Loom are from its pricing page, its Starter plan FAQ and its Chrome Web Store listing, as checked on October 16, 2026. They may have changed since; the sources are listed below.

Where the two differ

Loom has about 8 million users on the Chrome Web Store, with a 2.7-star rating from 10.2K ratings. Its Starter plan is free. Paid plans are Business at $18 per user a month and Business + AI at $24 per user a month, with Enterprise by quote. Loom says annual billing saves up to 17%.

TapeBooth is free with no paid plan, needs no account, makes no network requests, and keeps every recording on your computer.

Who should pick which

  • Pick TapeBooth if you record tutorials, bug reports or walkthroughs for yourself, want long recordings, no cap on how many you keep, and an MP4 or GIF you can send however you like, without making an account.
  • Stay with Loom if you rely on a share link that plays in the browser, a shared video library, comments and reactions, viewer insights, transcripts or AI summaries, or a team workspace. TapeBooth has none of these, because they need a server.

Switching takes a few minutes

  1. Save anything you want to keep from your Loom library first.
  2. Add TapeBooth to Chrome and allow your camera and microphone on the welcome page.
  3. If you use keyboard shortcuts, check they don't clash: TapeBooth's are Alt+Shift+R to start and stop and Alt+Shift+P to pause, and you can change them in Chrome.
  4. Record, edit and export. The webcam guide and the GIF guide walk through it.

TapeBooth can't open videos made elsewhere: its editor works on its own recordings.
