A free screen recorder with no watermark
Plenty of screen recorders are free until you look at the video: a logo in the corner, a five- or thirty-minute cap, or a download button that asks you to upgrade. TapeBooth puts nothing on your video and sets no time limit, and there is no paid plan to unlock.
Why free recorders add watermarks
A watermark is advertising. When a free plan stamps its logo on every video, each one you share promotes the product, and removing it is the reason to pay. Time limits, recording caps and locked downloads work the same way.
TapeBooth has no servers to pay for: it records, stores and exports on your own computer. So there's nothing to recover with a watermark, and nothing held back.
What you get, free
- No watermark on recordings or exports, ever.
- No time limit. Record for as long as your disk has room. At 1080p, an hour takes about 2.3 GB.
- Unlimited recordings. Keep as many as your disk holds; there's no count to run out of.
- MP4 and GIF export that you download and keep.
- A real editor: trim, split, cut out the middle, and blur parts of the picture.
- Up to 4K, if your screen has that many pixels; 1080p by default.
- Webcam and audio: a camera bubble, your microphone, and the tab's or computer's sound.
- No account and no sign-up. Nothing is uploaded.
Record a video without a watermark
- Add TapeBooth to Chrome, and allow your camera and microphone on the welcome page if you want them.
- Click the TapeBooth button, choose This tab, Window or screen or Camera only, and press Start recording.
- Pick what to share in Chrome's dialog. Press Stop when you're done.
- In the editor, choose Export and MP4 video. The file downloads with nothing added to the picture.
What TapeBooth doesn't do
Being honest about the trade-off: because nothing goes to a server, there are no share links and no cloud library. You share the downloaded file yourself, by email, a drive you already use, or your class's learning platform. TapeBooth works in Chrome on Windows, Mac and Chromebook (Chrome 126 or newer), not on phones, and doesn't record incognito windows yet.
How to check any recorder before you commit
- Record ten seconds and export it. Look at every corner of the downloaded file.
- Read the plan page for a per-video length cap and a total number of recordings.
- Check whether the free plan lets you download MP4 at all, or only share a link.
- Check what Chrome says when you add it. TapeBooth adds no permission warning.
